Today I’m headed home after a week long getaway I take with my husband each year.
It always feels like a luxury at first—
And it is.
But it’s not just that.
It’s a reset.
For my marriage.
For my mind.
For my energy.

Years ago, when I was a new mom, a woman told me:

“I don’t know how you can leave your baby for a whole week. I could never do that.”

And I carried that guilt for a long time.

Guilt for stepping away.
Guilt for not being “on” 24/7.
Guilt for choosing one week for me.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

This one week makes the other 51 better.

We don’t take this time 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒅 of leading well or parenting well.
We take it so that we 𝒄𝒂𝒏.

One week for my own mental health.
One week for my marriage.
One week to remember who I am when I’m not holding everything together.
And yes—one week for my kids.
Because they deserve the version of me that’s rested, present, and whole.

We don’t just reset for our families.
We reset for our teams too.
Because tired leaders lead from burnout.
Disconnected leaders lead from distance.
But restored leaders?
They lead with clarity, creativity, and compassion.

1 week of 52.
7 days.
168 hours.
10,080 minutes.
604,800 seconds.

But it doesn’t have to be a week at the beach.
Maybe it’s a weekend at the lake.
Or a quiet day at home.
Just one day doing something for you makes a difference.

Not selfish. Not just a luxury.
𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲.
